Lundgren vs. Unicorn
I'll let Dolph do bad things to my unicorn any day ;)
I've said this many times, but Planescape Torment is one of my favorite games of all time. I used to periodically play through parts of it, but lent my disks out a few years back and they were never returned. And man, it's hard to find this title.
I was thinking about this today, and then - BAM. The resurrected Good Old Games comes back and is selling it for $9.99. Pretty sweet.
For you cretins that have never played this gem, here's a quick summary. You wake up on a slab in a nasty, corpse-riddled dungeon called the Mortuary. You've got messages carved all over your body, but you have no clue who you are or where you're at. The first "person" you run into is a sarcastic, disembodied skull named "Morte" (who is awesome). Your immediate goal? Get out of this zombie-filled hell hole and figure out what's going on.
This is about as basic as you can go, but seriously. This game is deep, well-written, and just plain fun.
One of my FAVORITE memories of this game, which I quote all the time, relates to a particularly cool Dustwoman named Ei-Vene. She's a creepy character you run into that's sole purpose is to stitch up and repair corpses around the Mortuary. Through a series of events, you end up disguising yourself as a zombie and get her to "fix you up" so you can proceed further in your quest to gtfo.
She calls you a "zomfie". For some reason, I think that this is awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome. So, THAT is why I've used that term ever since. And now you know where that comes from!
Anyways, I am definitely going to re-purchase this guy for nostalgia's sake. If you're looking for one hell of a good game, I highly recommend doing the same. It may not have the graphic polish of new stuff, but it far surpasses the depth and polish of so many things out there today.
So Double Fine’s Tim Schafer said Activision’s Bobby Kotick was a prick and then Bobby Kotick said Tim Schafer was rubbish and he’d never even met him anyway and then Tim Schafer said Bobby Kotick was stupid and mean, and before that Bobby Kotick said EA were rubbish and mean and then EA’s Jeff Brown said Bobby Kotick was rubbish and mean and now I don’t know what to think about anything and everyone seems mean and angry and I’m so confused about who’s a goodie and who’s a baddie and I wish people would just make nice games instead of calling each other names across the internet.
For God’s sakes! How does this help anything? And we wonder why the games industry doesn’t get taken seriously by the mainstream media.
Seriously! What's with all the industry fighting lately? Less QQ more pew pew I say.
I discovered a nifty new blogging platform I wanted to check out - Posterous. Rather than import my old, poorly-written crap, I'm starting fresh. So hi. And so this post isn't completely pointless, here's a picture of Mango saying "WAZZAP?!"
If this is as awesome as it seems, I'll port my domain over and point that here. Until then, here's to testing! Apologies in advance for any noobish double posting that may happen.
